The adventure continues beyond the pages of Broken Sanctuary.
Just 30 Days—or I’m Doomed!
Writers are always discussing—and asking one another—a familiar question: “Are you a plotter or a pantser?”
Across social media, writers share how they plan, research, outline, and piece together their amazing stories.
I’m a pantser, I suppose, but I don’t feel I quite deserve the title. My stories don’t feel as though I’m making them up as I go. They feel as though they already exist, waiting to be found, and God is leading me to them.
I have always felt that writing wasn’t my strong suit. I was never an English major or someone who studied literature. God brought me the best editor in the world for me, Deirdre Lockhart. She spent many long nights unwinding my twisting, turning stories, and beneath them are novels that shine among the best.
And I had only thirty days to finish Broken Sanctuary before my scheduled round with her, already postponed several months because of my move to Florida.
I had nothing—not a page, not a word, and not even a title. Then I picked up my laptop and just began to piece it together—or rather, pick up the pieces scattered so brilliantly before me.
I have put together short videos and pages exploring the history, lore, and fantasy that went into the making of Broken Sanctuary. I hope you enjoy discovering how the story came to be, as I discovered it myself. I didn’t invent the time in which the story takes place; I discovered its history. The fantasy was mine to create, but the world of 1885 had so much to share with me.
Maybe the sanctuary did break. After all, the rest is real history. Won’t you join me?
