The Main Room, 1885

This was the heart of the Whitaker home. A cooking fire warmed the room, while Mother and the girls prepared meals in the kitchen area.

The family gathered around the dinner table after the day’s work. A sink stood nearby, and a doorway led to the steps and the rest of the house.

Look closely. There’s plenty to see in this room.
