Meet Catapracht, 1885

Meet Catapracht, 1885

Catapracht is a Pureling™ Fire Drake, and he is no ordinary being.

Pureling™ Fire Drakes are strong, quick, and built for the skies. Their wings can carry them over the hills, fields, and rocky places of the Northumberland countryside, yet they are just as much a part of the land as any other being in the Shire.

They can fly high above the trees, settle on the ground, and walk among the other beings of the sanctuary. And when Catapracht speaks, he can make himself understood by people and other beings alike.

But the most remarkable thing about a Pureling™ Fire Drake isn’t its wings.

They are from the Beginning.

Purelings™ are pure, without knowledge of the world or the fears, doubts, and troubles that come with it. They know only what belongs to the Beginning, unless they become worldly-wise.

And that is when everything can change.

They can talk.

Catapracht speaks freely with people and other beings. He sees the world from the sky, but he can come down to the earth and be part of the world around him.

He doesn’t know what it means to be afraid.

Fear is a worldly-wise emotion. Catapracht is not worldly-wise.
