n 1885, a perfect sheet of water hid a secret world behind Ashgill Force. Then, an oak tree drifted down, wedged on the lip, and split the waterfall. The outside world seeped into the Beginning’s sanctuary, and the magical beings had to flee forever.

Ashgill Force is a spectacular 55-foot waterfall hidden inside a steep, wooded gorge in Cumbria, England. It holds a secret that feels like pure fantasy: a hidden rocky shelf allows brave explorers to walk directly behind the roaring curtain of water and stand inside a dark, mossy cave.

In the modern world, the waterfall plunges from beneath the stone arch of Ashgill Bridge, which carries the high B6277 road. However, back in 1885, this bridge did not exist yet, leaving the gorge completely wild and untouched. You can reach this magical spot by taking an adventurous trail up from the nearby village of Garrigill, following a path lined with bubbling mini-waterfalls and wild woodland creatures..
